Firstly, you’ll need to consider whether you’d like to have the benefit of integrated weights with your BCD or just use a weight belt. You can also choose between having jacket or rear inflation. For beginner scuba divers it’s often easier to use jacket inflation as it can be more comfortable and holds you upright. Comparatively, the rear inflation system is suited to more experienced divers who are happy to sit horizontally during the dive and are looking for a more streamlined design as they swim.

Regulator set Your regulator set is another key component of your scuba set up which people are often unsure about. The biggest issue is matching the regulator set to the complexity of diving you’re undertaking. If you’re beginner to intermediate and are doing relatively shallow dives above the 20m mark than you might want to go with an unbalanced regulator.

For divers hitting that 25m – 30m mark, your regulator needs a little more complexity and durability to handle these conditions so you might opt for a balanced regulator.

Gauge Your gauge is arguably one of the most important components of your dive set. It attaches to your regulator set and indicates the remaining air you have available, which is some pretty keystone information.
