Otherwise known as Pāua knives, Abalone irons are designed specifically for removing abalone from rocks ideally without harming them thanks to their blunt square edges. This gives you a chance to return your catch if it isn't to size. However, there is still a chance the abalone will die from being removed, so measure before you remove if you can! In some places, including Victoria, you are required by law to use a blunt device such as an abalone iron.
