The Bluewater Freedivers WA annual Pelagic Pairs comp is set for March 2016!
BFWA members who are based in Perth regularly dive offshore and nearshore for a range of pelagic species. Each year the spearos of Bluewater Freedivers get together in pairs to hunt the wide range of pelagic species found on the west coast, followed by a BBQ and prizes at the weigh-in.
The 2016 event lands on the 12th of March and is a great opportunity for divers to show off their pelagic hunting skills and techniques across different areas that are within day trip distance of Perth.
This year Adreno have once again been very generous with agreeing to sponsor the competition prizes including hundreds of dollars of gift vouchers for Adreno and an absolute swag of Adreno merchandise including an Invisi-Skin wetsuit. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. There will also be a most meritorious fish prize and a mystery fish prize that will be drawn on the day.
Last year we had a number of competitors pull in great pelagic species including, yellow tail kingfish, spanish mackerel, samson fish, tailor, skippy and even bonito!
This year there have been some great reports of spanish mackerel in close in to the Perth metro area and some big dollies out on the fads. A short drive north of Perth there’s been sightings of schools of Sambos approaching 30kgs!
