5 Quick Tips - Blue Water Hunting

1. Use a speargun that you can easily manage
   On a lot of blue water drifts, often you'll see the best fish, right as you jump out of the boat and into the water. So make sure you have a gun that you can load as soon as you hit the water, ready to take that first shot.
2. Don't take a knife to a gun fight
   If you're going hunting for Dogtooth Tuna or any other big powerful fish, make sure you have the right gear! If you go out on the hunt for big doggies with your rock hopping setup, your gear is going to get destroyed and you won't land a single fish.
3. Time your burleying
   Plan your day so that when you get to the pinnacle that you know you really want to dive, you've already done your fair share of burleying and it's your turn to dive. You don't want to get the spot you've been dying to hunt at, only to be stuck on the surface holding the burley.
4. Defend the Fish
   When a fish is shot, it's everyone else's job to defend that fish. Often when you're blue water hunting there will be some hungry sharks in the area, so make sure all your dive buddies know that it's everyone's job to ensure every fish ends up in the boat.
5. Be financially prepared
   Think of going on a blue water charter as a luxury holiday, it may not be cheap, but it's an investment in your happiness. Once you're out there in the middle of the ocean, staring down your gun at that fish you've been waiting your whole life to shoot, it will all be worth it.
