    Rail Spearguns

Railguns are a rubber-loaded style of speargun characterised by the rail or track that extends along the top of the gun barrel. This rail supports the shaft when loaded and guides it as it's fired. Due to their reliable and simple design, railguns are the go-to speargun style for most spearos.

There is a particular advantage with this style of gun over tube guns as you move into longer lengths, as it prevents your shaft from sagging. In a typical tube gun the shaft is supported at the mechanism where it's locked in, and at the muzzle. The shaft can begin to sag either in the middle of the gun or past the muzzle in longer lengths which can reduce shot accuracy. A rail overcomes this issue and ensures the spear flies straight from the muzzle.

    Pros:
    • Support and guide the shaft for more accurate shots
    • Can assist with loading helping to guide your shaft back down the barrel
    Cons:
    • Increased friction potential between the shaft and the barrel due to a higher contact area. This is generally considered negligible.
    • Added bulk making these guns slightly heavier than tube guns.
