    Sarah Shark

    March 22, 2011 2 min read

My name is Sarah Richmond yet most people know me as Sarah Shark. I grew up on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria - home to freezing cold water, stunning beaches and remarkable dive sites. I have always had a love for the ocean but one animal seemed to always steal my attention be it in the water, on land or even while sleeping… my fascination with Sharks began when I was just 10 years old, and even from that early age I some how knew that Sharks would be a big part of my life

Fast forward 10 years and I find myself studying a Bachelor of Science majoring in Marine Biology and Ecotourism at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. I am learning more and more about Sharks and how important they are in the oceans eco-systems.

And that’s where my alter-ego Sarah Shark comes in! For quite some time I have wanted to explore the Sharks of Australia, not just the big boys that make the headlines, but I also want to meet and introduce people to many of the 185 shark species that call our waters home. With the world’s media only really telling a one-sided story of attack and fear I feel deeply driven to give a different account. So to do this… I’ve put it on camera.

Myself, Director Kieren Curry, Producer’s Timothy Rankin and Seanna Cronin banded together and “Sarah Shark the Documentary” was born.

Over 5 episodes, we aim to take you around Australia showing you some of the resident Sharks that call our waters home. With the release of our first episode “Wobbegong – The Forgotton Shark” only weeks away I am both excited and nervous.
