    1. Overview

    The Big 5 Spearfishing Competition (the “Competition”) is an online spearfishing competition organised and administered by Adreno Spearfishing Pty Ltd (“Adreno”, “we”, “us”, “our”). By entering the Competition, you (“Participant”, “you”, “your”) agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

    Competition dates and prize details will be announced by Adreno via the official competition page and social media channels. Any amendments to these Terms and Conditions will be published on the competition page.

    2. Eligibility

    1. The Competition is open to residents of Australia only.

    2. Participantsare recommended to  hold a valid AUF (Australian Underwater Federation) or USFA (Underwater Skindivers & Fishermen’s Association) membership at the time of entry. We recommend all participants to be covered by appropriate insurance.

    3. Participants under the age of 18 must have written consent from a parent or legal guardian.

    4. Employees and immediate family members of Adreno Spearfishing are not eligible to win prizes but may participate for leaderboard purposes.

    3. Competition Categories & Species

    The Competition consists of five (5) categories, each containing five (5) eligible species. Participants may enter across all categories simultaneously.

    Minimum weight: 5 kg on all fish, except Dolphin Fish which has a minimum weight of 3 kg.

    Wildcard

    Each entrant is allowedone (1) wildcard entry. The wildcard can replace any fish from the main five categories — for example, if you have four species in a category, you could use your wildcard to fill the fifth slot. Only the first wildcard submission per person counts; any subsequent wildcard submissions will be rejected.

    4. Entry Submission Requirements

    1. Each entry must be submitted via the official online submission form on the Adreno Spearfishing competition page.

    2. Entries must be submitted within thirty (30) days of the catch date.

    3. Each entry must include:

    1. A clear photograph of the fish on a scale, showing the weight reading.

    2. A video (maximum 20 seconds, maximum 40 MB) clearly showing the weight reading, the fish, the date of catch, and a witness present.

    3. The name and contact details of a witness who was present at the time of weighing.

    4. Accurate weight (in kilograms) and length (in centimetres) measurements.

    1. Image files must not exceed 40 MB. Video files must not exceed 40 MB.

    2. Only one entry per species per category is permitted. If a new entry is submitted for a species you have already entered, the higher-scoring entry will be retained.

    3. No tampering, editing, or digital manipulation of photographs or videos is permitted. Entries found to contain altered media will be immediately disqualified.

    5. Weight & Measurement Rules

    1. All fish must be weighed on a functioning scale that clearly displays the weight in kilograms.

    2. The weight reading must be clearly visible in both the photograph and the video submission.

    3. Each category has specific minimum weight thresholds (as detailed in Section 3). Fish that do not meet the minimum weight for their category will not be accepted.

    4. Length must be measured in centimetres and provided at the time of entry.

    5. A witness must be present during weighing and identified in the submission.

    6. Adreno reserves the right to request additional evidence of weight verification at its sole discretion.

    6. Scoring & Leaderboard

    1. Points are calculated as: Base Points + (Per Kg Rate × Weight in kg), rounded to the nearest whole number.

    2. Each participant’s total score is the sum of their highest-scoring entry for each species within a category.

    3. The public leaderboard displays the top five (5) participants per category, ranked by total points.

    4. Leaderboard standings are updated after each approved entry.

    5. In the event of a tie, the participant who submitted their qualifying entry first (by submission date) will be ranked higher.

    7. Legal Compliance

    1. All fish must be legally caught in compliance with applicable state and federal fishing regulations, including size limits, bag limits, and seasonal closures.

    2. Protected species must not be entered under any circumstances. Entries containing protected species will be rejected and may result in disqualification from the Competition.

    3. All spearfishing must be conducted using breath-hold diving only (freediving). The use of SCUBA or other breathing apparatus is strictly prohibited.

    4. Participants are solely responsible for ensuring they hold all required licences, permits, and insurance for spearfishing in their jurisdiction.

    8. Judging & Review

    1. All entries are subject to review and approval by Adreno’s competition administrators.

    2. Adreno reserves the right to reject any entry that does not meet the submission requirements, appears fraudulent, or is otherwise deemed ineligible.

    3. Metadata from submitted images and videos (including EXIF data and file modification dates) may be used to verify the authenticity and timing of entries.

    4. All decisions by Adreno regarding entry approval, scoring, and disqualification are final and not subject to appeal.

    9. Prizes

    There will be up to $25,000 AUD in prizes. Details and distribution methods are at the sole discretion of Adreno.

    Prizes are not transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. Adreno reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value without notice.

     

    10. Assumption of Risk & Liability Waiver

    IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

    By submitting an entry to the Big 5 Spearfishing Competition, you acknowledge and agree to the following:


    1. Spearfishing is an inherently dangerous activity that involves significant risks including, but not limited to, drowning, shallow water blackout, decompression injury, marine animal encounters, equipment failure, adverse weather conditions, boat-related incidents, and physical injury or death.

    2. You voluntarily assume all risks associated with your participation in spearfishing activities undertaken in connection with or for the purpose of this Competition.

    3. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you release, discharge, and hold harmless Adreno Spearfishing Pty Ltd, its directors, officers, employees, agents, affiliates, sponsors, and partners (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from any and all claims, demands, actions, causes of action, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including legal fees) arising out of or in connection with your participation in the Competition or any spearfishing activity related thereto.

    4. This release applies to claims arising from negligence, gross negligence, or any other cause, except to the extent that such liability cannot be excluded or limited by applicable Australian law (including the Australian Consumer Law).

    5. You acknowledge that Adreno does not organise, supervise, or control any spearfishing activities undertaken by participants. The Competition is an online leaderboard-based event and Adreno bears no responsibility for the circumstances in which catches are made.

    6. You warrant that you are physically fit and medically able to participate in spearfishing activities, and that you possess the necessary skills, experience, and qualifications to do so safely.

    7. You agree to indemnify and keep indemnified the Released Parties against any claim, loss, or damage arising from your breach of these Terms and Conditions or your negligent or unlawful conduct.

    8. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions is intended to exclude, restrict, or modify any rights or remedies that you may have under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) or any other applicable legislation that cannot be excluded, restricted, or modified by agreement.

    11. Privacy & Data Collection

    1. By entering the Competition, you consent to Adreno collecting and processing your personal information (including name, email address, phone number, membership number, and submitted media) for the purposes of administering the Competition.

    2. Your name and submitted images may be displayed on the public leaderboard and used by Adreno for promotional purposes related to the Competition, including on social media, the Adreno website, and marketing materials.

    3. Personal information will be handled in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and Adreno’s Privacy Policy.

    12. Disqualification

    Adreno reserves the right to disqualify any participant who:

    1. Submits fraudulent, misleading, or manipulated entries.

    2. Breaches any applicable fishing laws or regulations.

    3. Engages in unsportsmanlike conduct or behaviour that brings the Competition into disrepute.

    4. Breaches any provision of these Terms and Conditions.

    5. Is found to have entered a protected species.

    13. General Provisions

    1. These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Any disputes arising from or in connection with the Competition shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland.

    2. Adreno reserves the right to cancel, suspend, or modify the Competition at any time without prior notice if circumstances beyond its reasonable control make it necessary.

    3. If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

    4. These Terms and Conditions constitute the entire agreement between you and Adreno in relation to the Competition and supersede all prior communications and proposals.


    PARTICIPANT ACCEPTANCE

    By ticking the acceptance box on the online entry form and submitting your entry, you confirm that:

    • You have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions in their entirety.

    • You acknowledge the inherent risks of spearfishing and voluntarily assume all such risks.

    • You release and hold harmless Adreno Spearfishing and the Released Parties from all claims and liabilities as described in Section 10.

    • You meet the eligibility requirements as described in Section 2.

    • You consent to the collection and use of your personal information as described in Section 11.

    • All information provided in your entry is true, accurate, and complete.
