Description

Designed for entry-level divers, backup duty, and rental fleets, the Garmin Descent X10 Wrist Dive Computer takes a refreshingly practical approach to dive computing. Built around a large 2.1-inch always-on monochrome MIP display at 320 x 240 pixel resolution, it prioritises readability underwater without the complexity and cost of Garmin's more advanced Descent line-up. It runs the trusted Bühlmann ZHL-16c decompression algorithm with gradient factors, giving divers access to the same underlying science used in professional-grade computers, with adjustable conservatism levels to suit individual exposure and experience. At 130 g on the wrist with its hinged silicone band, it sits large and legible rather than sleek and compact, which is exactly the point for new divers and those who want a reliable secondary unit.

Garmin Descent X10 Wrist Dive Computer Key Features

  • Decompression Model: Bühlmann ZHL-16c with gradient factors, with selectable conservatism settings across low, medium, high, or custom. NDL Aware depth metrics update in real time to show how your current depth is affecting your no-decompression limit, giving you dynamic planning information as you dive rather than a static number.
  • Dive Modes: Covers scuba (single gas), apnea, and gauge modes, making it a versatile option across multiple disciplines. Single-gas scuba mode is straightforward and well-suited to new divers and rental situations where simplicity reduces error.
  • Display: 2.1-inch always-on monochrome MIP display at 320 x 240 pixels with backlight. MIP (Memory-In-Pixel) technology retains the displayed image without constant power draw, keeping battery life strong while maintaining visibility in bright conditions.
  • Battery Life: Up to 50 hours in dive mode and up to 6 months on standby. This makes it highly practical for rental operations and dive trips where charging access may be limited.
  • Dive Rating: Rated to 100 m (10 ATM), covering the full recreational depth range and beyond into technical recreational limits.
  • Alarms: Audible and vibration alerts for ascent rate, PO2, OTU, NDL, and deco stops. Supports up to 40 custom alerts per dive mode, triggerable by depth or time, giving more experienced users precise control over their dive profile monitoring.
  • Leakproof Inductive Buttons: Buttons operate through the case using inductive technology, eliminating the button seals that are a common failure point on traditional dive computers. This is a meaningful durability advantage, particularly for high-use rental environments.
  • Lens Material: Chemically strengthened glass, offering improved scratch and impact resistance compared to standard mineral glass.
  • Housing: Case and bezel constructed from fibre-reinforced plastic, with all housing and bezel plastics sourced from recycled ocean-bound material. Practical durability with a reduced environmental footprint.
  • Band and Fit: Included hinged silicone band is designed to fit over a wetsuit and adjusts from 140 to 360 mm, accommodating most wetsuit thicknesses without additional accessories. Compatible with optional 26 mm QuickFit bands and optional bezel guards for additional protection.
  • Rental Mode: A dedicated rental mode allows dive shops and schools to configure the device to a specific diver's skill level and reset it cleanly between customers, reducing setup time and configuration errors.
  • Connectivity and App Integration: Bluetooth connectivity links to the Garmin Dive app for automatic dive log uploads, location tagging, and gear usage tracking. Connected GPS pulls location data via your paired phone. Dive settings can also be synced across compatible Descent computers using setup sharing.
  • Device Simulator: The Garmin Dive app includes a full dive simulator that pairs with the computer, allowing divers to run through a complete simulated dive and familiarise themselves with the interface before entering the water.
  • Memory: 120 MB of onboard storage for dive logs and settings.
  • Dimensions and Weight: 56.4 x 72.2 x 20.2 mm and 90 g without band, 130 g with band. Large-format and purpose-built for readability rather than everyday wearability.
  • Flip-Screen Mode: Allows buttons to be repositioned above the display, useful for divers who prefer or need an alternative button orientation during a dive.
  • Safety Stop Timer: Built-in safety stop timer with three- or five-minute options, plus a basic dive planner covering no-decompression limits for pre-dive planning.

The Garmin Descent X10 is a well-considered computer for dive schools, rental operators, and new divers who want trusted Garmin technology and a proven decompression model in a straightforward, durable package. Its large display, long battery life, and rental-ready feature set make it one of the most practical entry-level dive computers on the market today.

Frequently Asked?

What dive modes does the Garmin Descent X10 support?

The Descent X10 supports three dive modes: scuba (single gas), apnea, and gauge. The scuba mode uses the Bühlmann ZHL-16c decompression model with gradient factors, and you can adjust conservatism to low, medium, high, or a custom setting. This makes it suitable for recreational scuba divers, freediving, and those wanting a straightforward gauge-only option.

How long does the battery last on a single charge?

In dive mode, the Descent X10 lasts up to 50 hours, which comfortably covers multiple dives across a full dive trip. In standby, the battery holds for up to 6 months. The proprietary Garmin charging and data cable is included in the box, so you won't need to source anything separately before your first dive.

Will this dive computer fit over a wetsuit?

Yes — the included hinged silicone band is specifically designed to fit over a wetsuit. The strap adjusts from 140 to 360 mm, accommodating a wide range of wrist sizes whether you're diving in bare skin or a thick suit. Optional 26 mm QuickFit bands are also available if you'd prefer a different strap style.

Is the Garmin Descent X10 suitable for a first-time diver?

Yes, it's built with new divers and rental use in mind. Features like NDL Aware real-time depth metrics, audible and vibration alarms, an automatic dive start, and a device simulator for practising on dry land all help less experienced divers build confidence. Rental mode also lets dive shops configure and reset the device between customers.
