Adreno has proudly stocked Adrenalin for more than two decades. For us, Adrenalin is not just another brand. It is a core part of the mission to deliver unreal quality at prices that make sense for Aussie surfers. Whether you are chasing barrels or just getting your feet wet, Adrenalin’s roots in community, resilience, and better gear have made it a trusted choice for generations.
If you have spent any arvo paddling out at Avalon Beach, you will know that surfing is more than just a sport. It is a way of life. Back in the early 1990s, when Australia was hit by recession, the surf scene on Sydney’s Northern Beaches was thriving, but premium wetsuits were out of reach for many surfers. For plenty of grommets and seasoned locals alike, the only options were often second-hand suits that had already seen better days.
That is where the Axfords came in. The family ran a small sports, surf, and fishing shop right in the heart of Avalon. Their lives revolved around the water, from surfing and swimming to fishing, lifesaving, sailing, and spearfishing. With sons Joshua and Adam surfing before school most mornings, the family understood both the stoke of the ocean and the struggle of unreliable gear. Their store was more than a shop. It was a local hub where stories were shared and the love of the water brought people together.
When the recession made quality wetsuits harder to afford, the Axfords saw how many young surfers were being pushed out of the water or forced into old, worn-out gear. That frustration sparked an idea. Why not create high-quality wetsuits that did not come with the premium price tag? Drawing on their background in dive suits, they set out to make better wetsuits more accessible for everyday Australian surfers.
Working with Sheico, a respected Taiwanese neoprene manufacturer, and later with a state-owned wetsuit factory in China, the Axfords developed an efficient production system focused on consistency and value. They committed to using quality materials, including Sheico neoprene and YKK zips, while keeping the range streamlined and production efficient.
At a time when flatlock stitching was just emerging in wetsuit technology, Adrenalin embraced it early. Flatlock stitching delivered greater comfort, reduced rash, improved strength, and better durability, while also allowing more efficient production. Adrenalin became known for producing wetsuits with 100% flatlock stitching, helping surfers enjoy comfort and reliability at a much more accessible price point.
Adrenalin also built its reputation on trust. The brand introduced what it described as the first lifetime warranty on wetsuits, standing behind the product and giving surfers added confidence that their gear was built to last.
Today, Adrenalin Wetsuits remains focused on keeping more people in the water. Its commitment to innovation, comfort, and affordability has helped generations of surfers enjoy reliable gear without blowing the budget. Every Adrenalin wetsuit carries that same original purpose: making surfing more accessible, one session at a time.
