3 Tips To Miss Less Fish

Landing your target on a dive is one of the most rewarding parts of spearfishing, but even experienced spearos can struggle with missed shots. That’s why we teamed up with Noob Spearo, aka Shrek, to break down three proven techniques that will help you stay calm, steady, and more accurate underwater, so you miss less and catch more.

    1. Get Close Before You Shoot

How close you are to your target matters more than you think.
Spearfishing shots slow down quickly once the spear leaves the gun because of water resistance, and the longer the spear travels, the greater the chance something (like a twitching fish tail or current) can knock it off line. Getting in closer before pulling the trigger increases your hit rate.

    2. Aim With Purpose, Not Panic

Your aim should be deliberate and calm.
Instead of rushing your shot, take a moment to align your body, lock your arm, and focus on a specific point on the fish. Extending your trigger arm with your elbow locked and keeping your eyes fixed on your target will reduce jerky movements and improve accuracy.

    3. Let the Fish Come to You

Aggressive chases often spook fish and lead to missed shots.
Move slowly, stay still on the bottom when possible, and let curious fish approach you from the blind spot. Patience not only conserves oxygen but also increases the chance of a perfect shot opportunity presenting itself.

    The Takeaway

Missing fish underwater isn’t usually bad luck. It’s about technique. By closing the distance, aiming thoughtfully, and using patience in your approach, you’ll see more solid hits and fewer frustrated misses. Apply these tips on your next dive and watch your spearfishing success climb!
